Move Review: Star Trek Beyond (2016)

Until 2009 I didn’t have much interest in the Star Trek franchise. If one of my favorite actors, Anton Yelchin, had not been in the first film directed by JJ Abrams I would probably have passed it by completely. Thankfully he drew me in because this trilogy (so far!) has become one of my favorite movie series!

Star Trek Beyond Anton Yelchin - Berk ReviewsYelchin tragically passed not long before Star Trek Beyond was released. While it does look like there will be a few posthumous film releases starring Yelchin I decided to go ahead and see Beyond a second time in IMAX 3D. I give Star Trek Beyond the rating: Must See Film.

STAR TREK is a Must See film according to Corey and Jonathan

In this film the crew of the USS Enterprise travels to an uncharted part of space to try and save another ship’s crew. They come face to face with a new enemy that hates everything the Federation stands for.

I was pretty nervous going into this film since Abrams was not directing. That helm was handed over to Justin Lin. Simon Pegg who stars as Montgomery Scotty helped with writing the script this go-around. This film was more action packed than the first two but it didn’t detract from the story.

I admire so much about the crew and have grown attached to them. Time and time again we are shown their bravery. They protect each other and stand up for what they believe in. There is a connection between the actors that comes through on the screen. Some of my favorite interactions are between Bones and Spock. They give each other a hard time but really care for one another.

Star Trek Beyond Simon Pegg - Berk ReviewsI loved the introduction of Jaylah! She is a strong willed character that goes after what she wants. I hope we see more of her in future Star Trek films. You may recognize the actress, Sofia Boutella, from Kingsman: The Secret Service.

If you’re looking for a fun science fiction movie that has plenty of action look no further than Star Trek Beyond! I definitely suggest catching on the big screen while you have a chance!
