The Conjuring 2 is directed by James Wan. This movie takes place in 1977, six years after the first film. It follows husband and wife team, Ed and Lorraine Warren, as they investigate a possible haunting for the Catholic Church. This time they have to travel all the way to Enfield,London. I give this film the rating: Must See Movie.
The Conjuring 2 about the Warrens is a Must See Movie
The movie instantly caught my attention when it opened with the Amityville Horror case. I read the book by Jay Anson when I was eighteen and it terrified me. I lost quite a bit of sleep while reading it but could not for the life of me put it down. The transition from the Warren’s investigation of the Amityville house and the Hodgson case was seamless.
One of my favorite things about this movie (as well as The Conjuring) is how well the movie is dated (for lack of a better word). The music, the wardrobe, every little detail points to the decade it takes place but it is never campy or over the top. After leaving the theater, I wanted to come home and put on an Elvis record!
The sets are beautiful. I have been impressed by the lighting and cinematography used in both The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2. I also appreciate that they do not employ cheap scares often. The use of little blurs of shape or movement in the background is plenty to get my imagination going.
Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson reprise their roles as Lorraine and Ed Warren. I love them together. At one point in the movie they are each telling Janet (the possessed girl) why they got married and the connection between each of their stories is so sweet! I never have a hard time believing what they are going through and their love for each other shows from the start of the movie to the finish.
I kept reading and hearing this movie is the “best horror sequel ever.” I don’t feel like there have been many decent horror sequels made in the first place so I didn’t think that was really saying much. I would go so far to say though that this is a great sequel regardless of genre. The first Conjuring was so good and blew my expectations out of the water. The Conjuring 2 was a great follow up! If you enjoy a good scare and storyline make your way to the theater for this one!
