Changing it up – Clarification on rating system

I’m two months into the reviews today. I am going to be changing the way I write the reviews. Not the frequency of them or the length, but the rating system and even the structure of the reviews.

I think my reviews of older films are going to become more about my experience with the film and whether or not I think you should watch it. I’m thinking rating movies as Must See, Solid Movie, A Decent Watch, Not a total Waste of Time, and Avoid Like The Plague will be my ratings.

  1. Must See – This is a movie that I was totally engrossed in. It may become on of my favorites, has a story that is important or memorable, a showcase of talent,  or it is revolutionary in some way. Definitely not a film you want to miss. Buy it, rent it, but see it!!!
  2. Solid Movie – Everything about this film is good. It’s one you should see, but it’s not necessarily vital. Some possible great moments, but overall not revolutionary or as significant as other films. Yet, I still suggest seeing it and it’s still worth paying for.
  3. A Decent Watch – Not amazing. Not horrible. Fairly neutral with some good or great elements possible. If you have access to watch it then you should, but probably not one you want to pay more than $5-$10 to own.
  4. Not a total Waste of Time – For the most part, I kind of wish I hadn’t sat through this movie. Yet, I managed to find some good element that makes me feel like it wasn’t a total waste of my time. This is a watch it for free on Netflix or borrow it from a friend kind of movie.
  5. Avoid Like the Plague – This movie hurt me inside. I may have even lost IQ points or got physically ill while watching it. This is one if you bought it there may be grounds for a lawsuit or possibly criminal charges. Don’t buy, don’t watch, unless you are trying to make your friends suffer and this is your idea of a cruel practical joke. This kind of movie makes you wonder how it was even allowed to be made!

I would love to hear feedback on this idea. I want the blog to not only tell my story, but also be the most useful for my readers. If you think the other method was better let me know!
