I had tried to make it to see Everybody Wants Some!! while it was still in theaters, but failed. It looked like it could be really funny. It does have some really great moments in the film, but didn’t really connect with me. I give Everybody Wants Some the Decent Watch rating.
A group of college baseball players navigate their way through the freedoms and responsibilities of unsupervised adulthood. The film focuses on Jake (Blake Jenner) as he enters his freshman year of college and meets his teammates and some girls.
Written and directed by Richard Linklater and marketed as a spiritual sequel to Dazed and Confused, I had to see it. I don’t think it quite lives up to Dazed and Confused, but there are definitely some funny moments. I don’t feel the story was as well put together and felt more like a series of vignettes than a cohesive story arc. For me, that’s not really what I get into when I watch a film.
The cast is a bunch of people I’m not really familiar with. Blake Jenner, Tyler Hoechlin, Ryan Guzman, Temple Baker, and Juston Street to name a few. However, I really loved Wyatt Russell as Willoughby and Glen Powell as Finnegan. Willoughby has some great lines and really is one of the only actors I knew thanks to 22 Jump Street. Glen Powell reminds me of another actor that I couldn’t quite place. His character Finnegan is probably my absolute favorite and I love so many of his scenes. His delivery of dialogue just worked for me and definitely made me laugh the most.
This is a “bromedy,” as in a Bro movie. It’s all about male bonding and womanizing. It manages to not be too graphic with the second aspect and only has one seen with nudity. I don’t think Everybody Wants Some will become the same caliber film that Dazed and Confused has over the years, but it’s worth a watch.
