I’ve heard a lot of people talking about this film lately, and decided to give it a watch. It’s available on Netflix and Turbo Kid has an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.

TurboKidThe film follows a kid (Munro Chambers) who is alone surviving in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. The wasteland is led by a tyrannical leader named Zeus (Michael Ironside) as well as other Mad Max inspired characters and the kid ends up at odds with him after his friend Apple (Laurence Leboeuf) is kidnapped.

I’d heard a lot of comparisons to the Mad Max franchise so I assumed it would be more in line with Fury Road, but it feels more like the Road Warrior. The pace of the film is much slower with more emphasis on the story than Fury Road. The plot has some fun twists and is well acted by the casts.

turbokid2 (1)This film definitely finds itself heavily immersed in 80’s nostalgia from the music to the title screen to the homage to Evil Dead. I could be wrong, but the amount of blood in this film harkens back to Evil Dead for sure.

It’s a fun film that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s paced a little slow, but that could just be when I watched it and my expectation of Fury Road. I give Turbo Kid a 6 out of 10 stars.
